Kwa Maritane Reopens on 25th Birthday PDF Print E-mail
The reopening of Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge, situated in the malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park, on May 1 was met with great jubilation from both staff, and guests who have made the lodge their holiday home over the last 25 years.

The lodge now boasts a state-of-the-art kitchen, new administration offices and extended dining and wildlife facilities. Going "Green" was an important part of the rebuilding of the lodge. All hot water supplied to the kitchen, laundry and back of house areas is now provided via solar heating systems thus reducing energy consumption. This accounts for 2 000 litres of solar heated water per month.

The extended restaurant, which now has a terrace running its length on the upper level, boasts greater views of the park, the rock for which the lodge is named, and the watering hole which the restaurant overlooks. There is also a new outdoor cooking area on the edge of the pool deck. All equipment is built-in, gas powered and can be used in all weather conditions.

The Wildlife Department, which has moved to a larger building, has also taken this opportunity to completely revamp its displays. In the future, guides in the department will place greater emphasis on improved educational aids which will offer comprehensive information. The department will also have a small cinema where wildlife DVDs will be shown and where presentations and educational lectures can be conducted. The guides have received astronomy training and will be able to provide “Star Gazing” talks with the aid of a newly acquired telescope.

Commenting on the renovations, general manager Dave Johnson comments: “We have taken this opportunity to extend and improve a number of our service levels while maintaining the high standards throughout the lodge to ensure that our guests will continue to enjoy the superior bush experience they have come to expect from Legacy Hotels and Resorts’ Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge”.
